This is one of the three teams with the most cups in football history, having gained nineteen official international titles against higher level national teams. In 1930 they were crowned world champions, with great help from their top scorer José Pedro Cea with five goals, twenty years later in 1950 history was repeated, and interestingly also with five goals from Oscar Miguez, their leading goal scorer. Today, the Uruguayan national team, nicknamed “La Celeste” (Sky Blue) has world-class players such as Luis Suarez, FC Barcelona’s current lethal striker, Diego Godin, one of the Spanish league’s characteristic central defenders and not forgetting Edinson Cavani, the powerful Paris Saint Germain striker. The Sky blue team have evolved and improved their football and are starting to be a feared force in South America.
