From their foundation in 1941 to 1957, the Detroit Pistons played as the Fort Wayne (Zollner) Pistons in Forth Wayne, Indiana. Fred Zollner, who was the original founder, named them the Pistons after his piston factory. With two championships in the now-defunct NBL before they joined the NBA, the Pistons won their first NBA championship in 1989, and followed it up with a second championship the very next year. They have played in five different arenas in Detroit: The Olympia Stadium, The Cobo Arena, the Pontiac Silverdome and their current home, the Palace of Auburn Hills, better known as the Palace, located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Eminem, Aretha Franklin, Tom Selleck, Vinnie Johnson, Anita Baker, Lloyd Carr, Thomas Hearns, Tom Izzo, and Stevie Wonder, among others, are celebrities that you can often find at the Pistons' games.
